Together with Enea software Lanner deliver vCPE solutions optimized for next-gen hybrid NFV architecture and help accelerate time-to-market for service providers and telecom equipment manufacturers.

The network ecosystem has undergone a rapid transformation and in recent years, many enterprises are shifting MLPS to direct Internet access for increased bandwidth and cost advantages. However, this shift also exposes enterprises to new cyber threats, which is the main concern when enterprises implement SD-WAN platforms.

The recent successful deployment of 5G MEC and VR devices in the 2018 FIFA World Cup has indicated that the fusion of physical reality and virtual reality will soon emerge, contributed by VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality) and MR (Mixed Reality) technologies. In fact, the major sports event also proved that high-quality VR/AR experience can be delivered over the wireless network. Indeed, the deployment of 5G MEC infrastructure has dramatically changed the paradigm of multicast and broadcast for sports and entertainment, by optimizing VR/AR in content delivery.

HEVC's performance and efficiency come with a need for more advanced CDN hardware. These appliances must be optimized for high-volume video streaming but can't compromise on other tasks such as packet forwarding.

Contributed by the widespread use of smartphones and tablets, the technological advancements of video streaming and mobile gadgets have rapidly transformed the way people consume their entertainments. The market of subscription VOD (Video-on-Demand) and live streaming on social media has shown a continuous rise in terms of the historical high number of subscribers and viewers. It is reported that there are more people watching their subscribed videos on smartphones, laptops and mobile tablets than living room TVs. Therefore, VOD service providers have to make their bit rate streaming adaptive to various network conditions and protocols, as well as the bandwidth for the client devices, in order to enable high-quality video contents without compromise. In addition, compression has to be performed “intelligently” in order to trim the data involved while maintaining the viewing quality. Therefore, streaming and video transcoding have to re-programmed with artificial intelligence.

Due to the high level of sensitivity and confidentiality of patient and healthcare data, the network in medical institutions is constantly under government regulation. In the mean time, the rapid digitalization has also impacted the healthcare sector and institutions in this field are evolving their IT infrastructure to protect confidential data while being compliant, and SD-WAN has become the optimal solution for today’s healthcare network.

NFV World Congress is an important event for the NFV industry, and is taking place this week in San Jose, California. One of the hottest topics to be discussed will be the advent of new hardware platforms optimized for the x86-based application space and specifically designed for Distributed NFV (D-NFV) use case where Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) are hosted on premise. I sat down with Sven to discuss Lanner and the evolution of the NFV market space.
