Rail Obstacle Detection refers to the process of alerting railway operators about obstacles or obstructions present on the railway tracks. These obstacles can range from debris and fallen branches to unauthorized vehicles or individuals trespassing on the tracks.
Rail obstacle detection systems often incorporate technologies such as video analytics, infrared sensors, radar, and lidar and advanced AI algorithms to detect obstacles effectively, especially in challenging environmental conditions such as low visibility or adverse weather.
Nowadays, rail safety practices rely on contact-based obstacle detection for intrusion protection, but this technology lacks long-distance and early warning capabilities.
Solution
To tackle the challenge of enabling real-time obstacle detection over rail track, Lanner provides EAI-R530, an EN50155 certified edge AI appliance designed for processing data for real-time video analytics in the railway trains. By analyzing information from sensors, cameras, and other sources locally, the EAI-R530 edge AI appliances can enable continuous monitoring of the railway tracks ahead.
Edge Computing and AI Acceleration
The EAI-R530 boasts a robust edge computing performance, featuring the 13th generation Intel® Core processor, codenamed Intel® Raptor Lake-P, with 15W low power consumption. To process the advanced AI algorithm locally, EAI-R530 can support various AI accelerators, including NVIDIA-embedded MXM acceleration computing cards, or Hailo-8™ AI accelerator.
Designed for Harsh Environment
As the trains may travel in harsh environment, the EAI-R530 is configured as a IP40-rated, fanless rugged computer to operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 70°C, withstanding temperatures of up to 85°C for a duration of 10 minutes.
EN50155/EN45545 Certified
The EAI-R530 is certified for railway transportation to operates with a DC power input range of 24-110V. This rugged computer complies with military standards (MIL-STD-810G) for earthquake resistance and shock resistance, and has passed certifications for train carriages (EN50155, EN50121-3-2), railway infrastructure (EN50121-4), signal and communication equipment (EN50125-3), fire resistance (EN45545-2), insulation (EN50124-1), and vibration and shock (EN61373).
M-12 Protected IO
Equipped with 2x 2.5GbE POE+ LAN, 4x 2.5GbE LAN ports, this system incorporates shock-resistant M12 connectors for ensuring stability and preventing detachment.
Wireless Connectivity
Wireless connectivity is essential for enabling reliable communication between railway train and control center. With built-in M.2 interface and SIM card slots, the EAI-R530 supports 5G sub-6 connectivity via 2x M.2 3042/3052 B key sockets, and WiFi connection via M.2 2230 E key socket. The EAI-R530 is also equipped with a OOB (Out-of-Band) port for remote device management.
Benefits
By leveraging the capabilities of in-train Edge AI appliances for real-time obstacle detection, railway operators can enhance safety measures, minimize the risk of accidents, and ensure the smooth and uninterrupted operation of train service.
