Lanner today released the powerful and flexible FW-8877, a 1U rackmount with a wide range of modular interface options supporting 10GbE over copper or fiber. Integrating the refreshed Intel platform announced today, the FW-8877 boasts an Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 series processor (“Ivy Bridge EP”) coupled with the C600 chipset.

“As the successor to the FW-8875, the FW-8877 series unit is a high performance 1U Rack mount network security system utilizing the cutting edge capabilities of the refreshed Intel C600 chipset (Ivy-Bridge-EP CPU + Patsburg C600 Chipset). It is also a 1U version of FW-8895. It is targeted at compute-intensive communications applications such as carrier-grade network security,” says Terence Chou, Senior Director of Lanner’s Network Computing division. “The system is equipped with 4 PCIe 3rd Generation NIC expansion slots, giving a maximum port density of 32 Gigabit Ethernet ports. The FW-8877 is also notable for its 8 x ECC DDR3 1600 DIMMs, IPMI support, 4 hot-swappable smart fans and a 400 W power supply with a redundant back-up.”

The modular interface allows the installation of various modules to deliver a flexible and powerful range of I/O options. The availability of 3rd generation bypass on all modules allows uninterrupted network uptime, even if a device in the network hangs. Also taking advantage of the refreshed Intel platform, Lanner’s FW-8895 has been updated to offer all the benefits of the new “Ivy Bridge” plus Patsburg chipset combination.
