Electrical mobility is expected to enjoy a continuous momentum, thanks to policies in countries with leading economic status implementing either incentives or restrictions. For instance, some countries would ban the use of fuel-consuming vehicles while others provide economical measures to encourage vehicle owners to make a replacement with EV (electric vehicles). Indeed, advanced countries and developing countries have the common objective to reach a zero/low – emission transportation. However, EV growth may be challenged by the concern of “range anxiety”, as some EV owners have the fear of insufficient range to reach their destinations. To counter this fear, there is an increasing number of EC charging stations and some of them offer fast-charging functions.


To meet the demands of increasing number of EV owners, more EC charging stations have been deployed. Thus, a leading EV charging solution provider in Europe approached a local distributor of Lanner to co-develop a network platform for their fast-charging stations across the nation.

Industrial-grade temperature range

Most EV charging stations are deployed outdoors, or in environments lack of air-conditioning or ventilation. Thus, the network gateway for EV charging facility shall support industrial-grade operating temperature to assure robustness and endurance.

Dual-core x86 Processor

Since performance is key to user experience, the network gateway is powered by dual-core Intel x86 Atom processors to perform rapid charging process and payment process, and feedback real-time charging status to control center.

Remote Diagnostics, Updates, and Restart

Some EV charging stations are deployed in remote areas. In order to monitor and manage all the deployed charging facilities, the network gateway shall support remote diagnose, updates and system reboot.

DIO Control

DIO (Digital I/O) is among the mainstream interfaces of industrial-grade charging equipments. Thus, the network gateway must be designed with DIO to connect with EV charging stations.

Serial Communication Interface

Serial communication interface is also a significant protocol between EV and charging facility in the load management.

LAN Connectivity

As a network gateway, LAN connectivity is fundamental to send real-time charging status to the control center for data collection.

Compact and Fanless Design

In a constrained setting like EV charging station, it is ideal to adopt compact and fanless hardware to reduce maintenance and installation concerns.




To meet the technological requirements above, Lanner introduces LEC-3030, the compact industrial-grade fanless Box PC to function as the network gateway for EV charging stations.

Lanner’s LEC-3030 is powered by dual-core Intel® Celeron® N2807 or single-core Atom E3815 (codenamed BayTrail) and DDR3L 1,333MHz up to 4GB, to offer the required performance in real-time data transfer with the control centers. To connect with EV charging stations, LEC-3030 provides a wide variety of Serial communication (COM), DIO and LAN interfaces. By taking consideration of outdoor environment, the COM and LAN ports are designed with isolation protection. Since EV charging stations are usually deployed in demanding environments, LEC-3030 supports wide range of operating temperature from -40 to 70ºC.
