Since the emergence of cloud technologies, enterprises have migrated their applications and data to the cloud. Many of the cloud-related buzzwords, such as SaaS (Software as a Service), IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), and PaaS (Platform as a Service), have been adopted by global enterprises as the solution to improve competitiveness and QoS (quality of service). In fact, the business world has already entered the multi-cloud generation, in which many enterprises operate more than one cloud platforms, like an assortment of public cloud, private cloud, SaaS and PaaS.

Hyperscale cloud service providers are encountered with video-intensive demands, but most of their data centers are still stacked by servers and switches with multiple 10 GbE (Gigabit Ethernet) interfaces. The hyperscale operators have realized that it is inadequate to just stack up servers and switches with conventional 10GbE ports. Thus, the 25 Gigabit Ethernet standard has been introduced by 25G Ethernet Consortium, participated by Arista, Microsoft, Broadcom, Google and Mellanox.

In this archive of a livecast from the SDN & NFV World Congress at The Hague, Jeans Tseng, VP and GM of Telecom Applications BU for Lanner, shares the announcement of Lanner NCA-4020 as a verified Intel® Select Solution for uCPE for Accelerated SD-WAN Deployment. Jeans describes the live demonstration at the live event, showcasing how this solution is optimized as a uCPE platform for SD-WAN, NCA-4020 featuring four 16-core Intel® Xeon® D-2100 processors, 10x GbE RJ45 (8 Port PoE+) and 4x 10G SFP. In combination with Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) and Intel® QuickAssist Technology (Intel® QAT) for improved network performance, Jeans shares how the optimized Lanner NCA-4020 hardware can deliver significant performance enhancement in running multiple VNFs in SD-WAN, reduce testing and validation efforts, and accelerate time-to-market deployment. Learn about the customer response to this platform, and where Jeans sees traction in terms of customer interest

SD-WAN is currently a widespread game-changer to improve WAN optimization for multi-branch organizations. In fact, SD-WAN solutions today are delivered to customers in a variety of service models, mainly “SD-WAN as a Service” or “Managed SD-WAN”, and actually the two are related in some ways. Thus, the article is going to discuss how the two models function, hopefully providing the help for making the right decision of SD-WAN model.

In the Technology Forum of SDN NFV World Congress 2018 at The Hague, Jeans Tseng, VP and GM of Telecom Applications BU showcased the latest deployment use case using Lanner’s pre-validated uCPE platforms to ease the challenges and difficulties when rolling out of SD-WAN services.

Today, SD-WAN is already a widespread phenomenon due to the paradigm shifts driven by economic and technological incentives. Indeed, SD-WAN provides IT management an abstract layer to manage and control enterprise VPN (virtual private network) status, which is far more cost-effective than the use of proprietary equipment and vendor-defined software. On the other hand, SD-WAN can save the cost and reliance on MPLS layers.

Lanner vCPE/uCPE platforms have been adopted by world-leading SD-WAN solution vendors in diverse market landscapes, from traditional WAN optimization companies, communication service provider, to software startups and cloud-based services.
