Lanner strives to ensure the environmental friendliness of all business activities and projects. We obtained certification for ISO 14001 environmental management system and IECQ QC 080000 hazardous substance management system. We also comply with the WEEE directive, RoHS and REACH. Longterm policies have been developed to protect the environment, conserve energy and make effective use of natural resources. A variety of action plans have been proposed over the years based on these environmental policies and approaches.

Effective use of raw materials

The Industrial Revolution marked the start of mankind's exploitation of mineral resources on a large scale. As an electronics manufacturer, Lanner actively looks for ways to reduce the consumption of mineral resources. A raw material re-inventory mechanism was launched in 2017 based on the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE Directive). In this future, our system will be able to immediately identify and sort materials for (1) reuse, (2) recycling, and (3) recovery.

Supplier cooperation is required for this completely new raw material inventory program so we drew up the "Supplier Declaration on Non-use of Restricted Substances" in 2017 that required the implementation of the three following measures:

  • Must provide "Part weight".
  • Must be accurate to 3 decimal places such as 0.001g.
  • Must tick as "recyclable" or "non-recyclable."

The new version of Lanner's Supplier Declaration on Non-Use of Restricted Substances" will facilitate the reuse, recycling and recovery of raw materials in the future.

Safer materials management with RoHS and REACH

Massive quantities of electronic products are produced globally every year to provide mankind with an unprecedented level of high-tech living. Landfills are naturally filled with hazardous waste electronic and electrical products as a result. Many nations have imposed restrictions on the use of certain substances and chemicals to protect human health and the environment. Related regulations in Europe include the Restrictions of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive and the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulation.

RoHS is short for "Restriction of Hazardous Substances" directive. The standard came into force on July 1, 2006, and mainly governs the materials and manufacturing techniques of electronic and electrical products to better protect human health and the environment. The purpose of the RoHS standard is to eliminate the use of six substances in electronic and electrical products:Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+), Polyborminated Biphenyls (PBBs) and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers); on June 4, 2015, the revised RoHS 2.0 directive was issued by the EU adding 4 toxic or hazardous substances (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP) to the control list.

Lanner has set up a lead-free PCBA assembly line that uses solder paste to attach electronic components to the printed circuit board. The soldering process is also referred to as Surface Mount Technology (SMT).
