Lanner (6245.TW) today announced the release of the VES-500, a RISC-based 203mm x 160mm single board computer powered by the Freescale i.MX6 multi-core and power-efficient processor, delivering performance for a wide variety of industrial and commercial communications applications.

The VES-500 is designed specifically for projects that demand cost and power efficiency, such as retail (digital signage, kiosk and vending machines), in-vehicle surveillance, industrial communication (HMI, gateway controller) and building automation (alarm, security).

Freescale i.MX6 Series Processors

The i.MX6 Dual and Quad core processors are based on Freescale’s ARM® Cortex™A9 architecture, one that not only enables integrated hardware design, and graphic performance but also shortens the gap between x86 and RISC hardware solutions.

Feature-packed and Multi-functional

Together with 1GB onboard DDR3 memory, the VES-500 offers also a 4GB eMMC & SD card reader, providing easy access to memory storage; the 2 built-in Mini-PCIe (one with SIM card reader), on the other hand, enable 3G and Wifi connectivity.

For retail applications such as digital signage, kiosk and vending machines, the VES-500 supports LVDS LCD with touch screen, one HDMI port capable of 1920x1080 resolution, mic line/in & out for audio and two Type A USB 2.0 connectors, one for host devices and the other for both host and client devices.

The VES-500 is compatible with both the VEK-PDM01, a PoE PD module and the VEK-IGN01, a power ignition control module. For in-vehicle projects, especially those involving in-vehicle surveillance, the VES-500 is equipped with one GbE LAN port and one CAN Bus for real-time data/image collection and transmission, GPS and G sensor for location tracking and fleet management.

In addition to supporting Linux BSP and Android 4.2, the VES-500 also supports Ubuntu from Freescale.
