Today, Lanner Electronics Inc. unveiled the FW-8893 and FW-7575, two new high-performance network acceleration appliances utilizing the Intel® platform for communications infrastructure (formerly codenamed “Crystal Forest”). The FW-8893, featuring the Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 series, is designed for high-end security or WAN acceleration. The FW-7575, with the Intel® Xeon processor E3-1125C or E3-1105C, is primarily for Enterprise Router or Unified Threat Management (UTM) firewalls.

“Both FW-8893 and FW-7575 use the Intel® Communications Chipset 89xx series,” said Will Chen, Lanner’s General Manager of NC Business Unit.“With this platform, data processing across networks becomes more efficient and secure, especially for cloud computing and content delivering.”

“The FW-8893 has the highest port density compared to Lanner’s current 1U network appliances,” said Jesse Chiang, the Executive Product Planner of Lanner Electronics Inc. “With the FW-7575, one expansion slot is provided and can accommodate a variety of Lanner Ethernet modules, from 4 to 8 copper/fiber GbE ports, or 2 copper/fiber 10G ports.”

The FW-8893 and FW-7575 are compatible with both 2nd and 3rd generation Intel® XeonTM processors. In addition, the FW-7575 supports the 3rd generation Intel® CoreTM i3 processor, a 22nm energy-efficient CPU that delivers increased performance, connectivity, responsiveness and security.

Using the Intel® Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK) with Lanner’s two new network appliances can increase network performance by five times compared with previous generations of Intel® platforms. The Intel® Communications Chipset 89xx series (formerly codenamed “Cave Creek”) comes with Intel® QuickAssist technology, which processes and accelerates packet workloads, including cryptography, and compression.
