Lanner today announced the release of the NCA-6120, a high-performance 2U rackmount network security appliance powered by the AMD EPYC™ 7000 Series CPU, with support for both Milan and Rome (64C/128T) and delivers up to 40Gbps encryption/decryption security acceleration. This platform is designed for application delivery, mobile edge computing, WAN optimization, DPI/IPS/IDS, NFV/SDN and NGFW/UTM.

The NCA-6120’s impressive specs include its support for up to 1024GB of DDR4 3200MHz ECC R-DIMM, four or dual 3.5” or 2.5” swappable HDD/SSD bays, two RJ45 ports (including one console port) and 2x PCIe*8 FHHL or 1x PCIe*16 FHFL for expansion.

What’s more, the NCA-6120 accommodates up to eight NIC module slots that support 1/10/40/100G copper/fiber interface, greatly enhancing the NCA-6120’s flexibility and scalability. These NIC module slots are compatible with Lanner’s F.A.S.T. connectivity/storage/open compute module solutions.

Rome and Milan are respectively AMD’s 2nd and 3rd generation EPYC CPUs.

Rome CPUs incorporate both 7nm and 14nm manufacture processes; their memory controller and I/O, according to AMD, “have been put into a dedicated shared module that hooks up to the eight other CPU modules,” and “each of these CPU modules houses 8-cores, providing up to 64-cores total on a single package.”

Milan CPUs, on the other hand, offer up to 128 lanes of PCIe 4.0 and eight channels of memory. Similar to Rome, the Milan processors are also designed with 8 chiplets of eight cores each; the difference is that all eight cores in the chiplet are connected, providing an effective double L3 cache design for a lower overall cache latency structure.
