As 2020 is anticipated to be the year of 5G introduction, ITRT (Industrial Technology Research Institute) in Taiwan has formed multiple partnerships with 18 leading network hardware vendors to establish a 5G ecosystem, mainly targeting on the domestic supply-chain and establishment of data center infrastructures. Lanner Electronics Inc., on the other hand, has been an industry leader in network computing and information security, and with long expertise, Lanner founded its Telecommunication Application Division to further penetrate the vertical markets of 5G, SDN, and NFV.

This time, Lanner has been invited by ITRI to take part in their 5G ecosystem, with the purpose of integrating core technologies including NFV (network function virtualization), SD-WAN (software-defined WAN), network security and MEC (multi-access edge computing) to accelerate the environments of open, virtualized, and low-latency platforms for the upcoming 5G.

Lanner possesses 30-year of experience in the telecom and network computing hardware, and recently, has established a strong foothold in SD-WAN market. In fact, Lanner’s SD-WAN product line is estimated to bring significant higher revenue, from 15% last year. Meanwhile, Lanner is also one of the few industry leaders with dedication and market shares in telecom, network communication, cyber-security and IoT.

In recent years, Lanner has been dedicated in 5G mini stations and MEC (multi-access edge computing). Edge computing offers high-performance, low-latency network orchestration to reduce the operating expense (OPEX) for operators in their business competitions. In 2018, Lanner has worked with National Chiao Tung University to establish 5G MEC joint laboratory. The cooperation involves Lanner engineering experts and top students from Department of Computer Science and Department of Mechanical Engineering of the university to co-develop 5G researches and related network orchestrations for a low-latency, wider bandwidth 5G experience.
