Lanner partners with Intel® to present performance-enhanced SD-WAN solution package, integrating white-box vCPE NCA-2510 powered by Intel® Atom™ C3000 series CPU (formerly Denverton) and Intel Data Plane Development Kit (Intel DPDK) packet process software, delivering significant performance enhancement in running multiple security VNFs in SD-WAN infrastructure. Debut at RSA 2018, the joint demonstration will display the benchmark data at Lanner booth #4803 presenting how Lanner vCPE with Intel DPDK can jointly boost packet processing efficiency in network security VNFs like DPI and VPN IP-sec applications.

SD-WAN Test Environment

Based on simulation approach, two NCA-2510 devices are deployed in the SD-WAN test environment; one NCA-2510 in corporate HQ site and another in branch office site, to test the data plane performance of SD-WAN routing VNF between two vCPE NCA-2510s.

Intel QuickAssist Technology (QAT) enhances crypto acceleration and compression capabilities to improve performance by hardware on Intel® Architecture platforms. Intel® AES New Instructions (Intel® AES NI) defines advanced cryptosystem standards that improves on the existing Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm and accelerates the encryption of data in the Intel® processors.

Performance Test Result

The first benchmark result of throughput displays nineteen (19x) times of the performance than the counterpart without enabling QAT and DPDK test set.

The second throughput benchmark result reveals seven (7x) times of throughput performance than the counterpart without AES-NI and DPDK.  Both platforms are demonstrated by Lanner network appliance NCA-2510, with Intel® Atom™ C3958 and 100 flows/10 tunnels.
