Multi-access edge computing (MEC) is no doubt one of the key foundations of future 5G network. In fact, MEC has already driven a paradigm shift in how telecommunication service and network computing are provided to users.

MEC represents the concept to perform core network functions, by aggregating compute, storage and analytics for the various edge computing gateways. In short, make edge gateways “smart” so that traffic can be routed to the edge where user traffics are generated, instead of the cloud. MEC indicates a distributed networking architecture to minimize the latency observed in a centralized cloud infrastructure. With Hybrid Architecture of x86 and switching hardware, MEC can be enabled to run 5G user applications.

The advantage of HybridTCA

● Pre-validated Carrier-grade NFVI

Lanner HTCA-series appliances have undergone a comprehensive testing and validation process with the Wind River Titanium Server NFV infrastructure (NFVI) software solutions, including carrier grade Wind River Linux, real-time Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM), carrier grade plug-in for OpenStack®, Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK), and accelerated virtual switching

● High Speed Switching Capabilities

To meet the requirement of carrier-grade network traffic, HTCA series leverages the latest packet processors to offer 40/100GbE high speed throughputs with capacity up to 1.2Tbps.

HLM-1030: 6x 100GbE QSFP28, 4x 40GbE QSFP+ and 16x 10GbE SFP+

HLM-1003 : 8-port 40GbE QSFP+

● Multiple Intel Xeon Compute Blades

Offering extreme performance and processing power, HTCA-series appliances can host up to 6 CPU blades, supporting up to 12 dual Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 Series CPUs with a total of 264 cores

● NEBS Compliant, Fully Redundant Design

All CPU blade, network I/O blades, N+1 cooling fans and power supply units are in full-redundancy design to ensure carrier-grade high-availability and 99.9999% uptimes

● PCI-Express and Storage Options

To meet the requirements for open compute architecture, Lanner appliances can support up to 6 3.5” or 12 2.5” HDD/SSD storage drives and 6 PCIe slots for expansion with acceleration cards
