Today sees the release of Lanner Electronics’ new LEC-7220 small form factor fanless embedded PC. The LEC-7220 is built for machine vision and vision control, is the successor of the LEC-2136, and is designed to provide choice for customers who need high performance and support on both Windows® and Linux. Equipped with industrial components, the LEC-7220 can operate under a wide range of temperatures and in adverse conditions. It provides rich I/O ports, including 4 or 6 Gigabit LAN ports with Intel Ethernet controllers, a VGA port, 4 USB 2.0 ports and 2 RS-232 ports.

Spencer Chou, Director of Lanner’s Embedded Computing Product Division, said, “we’re excited to be releasing our new IPC, the LEC-7220, specifically designed for machine vision and vision control. It is highly compact, very robust, and offers customizable I/O perfectly suited to the job. Created to fill a niche without breaking the bank, we think the LEC-7220 further advances Lanner’s credentials, and is going to be a popular choice in the machine vision market.”

Tailored for machine vision

Built around the dual-core Intel® Atom™ N2800 (1.86 GHz) CPU, the LEC-7220 provides ample computing power for machine vision tasks while keeping a firm grip on the power budget. This makes the LEC-7220 the right option for energy-conscious users needing to keep power consumption under control. The serial and USB ports offer abundant connection possibilities for peripherals and other devices, while the built-in DB9 VGA port supports an external display with a resolution up to 1920 x 1200 pixels. The included SIM card reader allows for the device to be wirelessly connected via a 3G card.

Measuring just 198 x 42 x 145 mm (7.72 x 1.64 x 5.66"), weighing in at 1 kg (2.2 lbs), and supporting a range of mounting options, the LEC-7220 is ideal for discrete placement in confined spaces. The aluminum casing and low-power CPU allows for a fanless design, meaning that even with the LEC-7220 running at full tilt it remains whisper-quiet. All this, while still maintaining an extended operating temperature range between -20ºC to 55ºC.

There are two variants available for order; the LEC-7220-N4, which has 4 Gigabit RJ45 LAN ports, and the LEC-7220-N6, with 6 GbE LAN ports for managing device-rich networks.
